Village Smithy Devlog 1 - Crafting Begins!

Hey everyone! πŸ‘‹

Welcome to the very first devlog for Village Smithy — my cozy little 2D blacksmithing game currently in development.

In Village Smithy, you play as the local blacksmith in a small medieval village, crafting tools, nails, horseshoes, buckets and other essentials for the townsfolk. It’s a simple life of heat, hammer, and hard work — with plenty of charm along the way.

πŸ”¨ What’s New

The foundation of the game is finally coming together!

Over the past week, I’ve been focused on building out the core crafting system:

β€’ βœ… Added Anvil interaction — press E to open the crafting panel

β€’ βœ… Implemented recipes for Nails, Horseshoes, and Buckets

β€’ βœ… Items now consume ingots, water, and other resources correctly

β€’ βœ… Created a working forge, coal pile, and water bucket system

β€’ βœ… Added on-screen HUD counters for coal, gold, ingots, and water

β€’ βœ… Cleaned up UI visuals and built a tidy Anvil Panel with clickable buttons

πŸ’‘ What’s Next

Now that basic crafting is in, I’m moving on to:

β€’ βš™ Adding sound effects (hammer hits, forge crackle, metal clinks)

β€’ ✨ Visual polish — glowing forge, embers, and sparks

β€’ πŸ“¦ Sellable items and economy balance at the chest

β€’ 🏠 Expanding the workshop area and adding new interactables

🎨 A bit about the art

All art so far has been hand-drawn in Procreate — keeping things simple, warm, and colorful. The forge glow, wood textures, and little details (like the barrel and anvil shading) are all drawn to give the game a soft, inviting feel.

πŸš€ Wrapping up

It feels great to see everything starting to click together. Even at this early stage, Village Smithy already feels cozy and alive — a place where you can slow down, craft a few items, and watch the forge light flicker.

If you like the look of this project, follow the page or drop a comment — it really helps motivate the next steps! ❀

More updates soon — next stop: glowing forge and hammer sparks πŸ”₯
